Turkish officer killed in mine blast

Troops are continuing to sweep the mountainous region around where the mine was detonated, the General Staff said.

HAKKARİ - An officer of the Turkish security forces was killed and another wounded by a land mine in the south eastern province of Hakkari, the Turkish General Staff announced Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the General Staff, the officer was killed when he stepped on a mine in the mountainous areas of Hakkari’s Yukseova town around 3 pm on Saturday.

The blast also wounded another officer, who is being treated in hospital, the statement said.

Operations are continuing in the region, the General Staff statement said.
