The motion lodged by the Republican Peoples Party (CHP) and voted on late Tuesday, concerned the sale of the media group ATV-Sabah, which had been seized by the state last year due to the non-payment of debts owed by the previous owners.
The CHP claimed that the Prime Minister had used his influence to assist an arm of Calik Holding, a company based in Istanbul, to obtain loans from two state banks to help finance the $1.1 billion acquisition.
Fire was added to the debate over the sale of the media group when it was disclosed that a Qatari-based company had bought a 25 percent stake in the firm that had won the bid for ATV-Sabah.
Another accusation against Erdogan was that he had used his influence to discourage other bidders in the tender. The Calik Group was the only bidder in the auction, after all other contenders dropped out.
The Prime Minister had denied all suggestions of wrong doing.
