Moderate quake rattles Turkey’s south east

Many local residents fled into the streets when the quake struck in the early hours of Monday morning.

HAKKARİ - A moderate earthquake has shaken areas of Turkey’s south eastern region close to the border with Iraq, though there have been no reports of injuries or damage.

According to the Bogazici University’s Kandilli Seismic Observatory and Research Institute, the quake, which struck at 2:19 on Monday morning, measured 4.1 on the Richter Scale of magnitude.

The quake had its epicentre near the village of Cigli in the Cukurova district of Hakkari.
