Turkey’s top general grieves at losses in fight against terror but vows to continue battle

In the past week, at least seven Turkish soldiers have been killed in clashes with the terrorist group the PKK.

ANKARA - The chief ot the Turkish General Staff said he grieved over the losses incurred in the fight against terrorism but said that grief only encouraged the armed forces to fight in an even more determined manner.

Turkey did not want to see any of its soldiers killed or wounded but that such losses were inevitable in the concerted effort to eliminate terrorism, General Yasar Buyukanit said.

The Chief of Staff said that the armed forces remained committed to defeating the terrorist threat and that those responsible for the losses suffered would themselves suffer.

“They will definitely be punished,” Buyukanit said.
